No one was injured after a garage fire in the Comstock Park area of Plainfield Township ignited a propane tank, causing a massive explosion as a firefighter approached.

A Michigan firefighter narrowly avoided an explosion ignited by a propane tank in a burning garage over the Fourth of July weekend.

Plainfield Township Fire Department crews responded early Sunday to a fire that started in the garage of a home in the Comstock Park area, WOOD-TV reports. A newspaper delivery man who spotted the fire woke a woman inside, and she was able to get her dogs and six other people safely out of the house.

Video footage released Monday by the department's district chief shows flames erupting from the garage. A firefighter is then seen approaching the burning structure (at the 2:45 mark) right as the propane tank inside the garage exploded and spread the fire to the house.

The video shows the firefighter quickly escaping the blast while debris flies through the air. The first responder wasn't injured in the incident.

Firefighters worked for over an hour to get the fire under control, according to the district chief, The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
